When you copy files from your computer to a disc, you're burning the files to the disc.
You use CD-R or CD-RW discs, or a DVD-R or DVD-RW discs.
If you're not familiar with the difference between R and RW discs, go to How to Bring Your Photographs to Class.
Try the disc burning methods below.
If you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, you can use the disc burners included with these programs.
In Photoshop Elements, go to File > Burn.
Scroll down, or click here.
You may have disc burning software on your computer.
1) Insert a blank disc into your computer.
If you're a student at the 92nd St. Y, be sure to use a CD, not a DVD.
The class computer doesn't have a drive for DVDs.
2) A window will appear asking you what you want to do with the disc.
If one of the choices is . . .
Add files using XYZ Software
Then you've got a disc burner.
3) Double click Add files using XYZ Program.
Dell computers may have Sonic RecordNow! installed.

Your computer may use different software.
A window for the disc burning software will appear.
4) Click Add Files and Folders, or the button with a similar name.
5) Find the folder that contains your photographs.
6) Select the photographs.
To select more than one, press and hold Ctrl while clicking on each file.
To select a series of files, press Shift, click on the top file, and then click on the bottom file.
7) Click Add.
8) Click Burn.
9) The disc ejects when the process is completed.
If the above didn't work, try this method that's built into Windows XP.
1) Insert a blank disc into your computer.
If you're a student at the 92nd St. Y, be sure to use a CD, not a DVD.
The class computer doesn't have a drive for DVDs.
2) Find the folder with your photographs, and select the ones you want to burn to the disc.
To select more than one, press and hold Ctrl while clicking on each file.
To select a series of files, press Shift, click on the top file, and then click on the bottom file.
3) Go to File and click Copy
4) A Copy Items window will appear.
Click the drive that contains your blank disc.
Click Copy.
5) Go to My Computer and double click the drive that contains your blank disc.
A window will appear showing the files you selected.
Think of the window as being like a loading dock.
Your files are waiting there to be shipped (burned).
6) Under CD Writing Tasks, click Write these files to CD.
The CD Writing Wizard will appear.
Follow the instructions.
If none of the above methods worked, then you need to get a disc burner.
You can purchase Sonic RecordNow, the program described above, for about $30.

Here's a tutorial for DeepBurner.
1) Download DeepBurner.
2) Install the software by clicking on the file.
Follow the installation Wizard directions.
3) Go My Computer, and click Local Disc (C:).
4) Click Program Files.
5) Click Astonsoft.
6) Click DeepBurner.
7) Right click DeepBurner, and select Create Shortcut.
Click and drag the shortcut to your Desktop.
The program automatically adds an icon in the Quick Launch area at the bottom of your screen.
8) Double click DeepBurner to open the software.
The window to the left has icons for the different operations.
The middle window is where you'll drag files that you want to burn.
The gray area to the right is where Windows Explorer will open, when you click Launch new Browser window, located in the tool bar.
9) Go to File, and click New.
The Select project type window will appear.
Select Create CD/DVD, and click next.
10) The New project window will appear.
Select Create multisession disc, if the disc is blank.

11) Select the photographs you want to burn in the Windows Explorer window.
12) Drag them onto the middle window, labeled CDRoot, or something similar.
13) Click the Burn Disc icon in the left window.
The window changes.
14) Click Burn at the bottom.
15) The disc ejects when the process is completed.
If the windows no longer fit neatly on the screen, go Window, and click Tile vertically.
Adding Photographs to a Used Disc
When you're burning more photographs to a previously used disc, be sure to select Append session, instead of Create multisession disc.
This window will appear.
In the lower right portion of the window, you can see how much space is left on the disc.
Just click Import, and continue as described above.
Standard CDs hold up to 650 megabytes (MB).
High-capacity CDs hold up to 850 MB.
To see how much space is left:
Go to My Computer, and click the drive that contains your disc.
Look in the Details box to see how many MBs have been used.
Go to My Computer, and right click the drive that contains your disc.
Click Properties.
A window will appear with a pie chart showing disc usage.
