1 - Introduction

Light rules!

It's the most important ingredient in a photograph.

But, because we live immersed in a world of light, we rarely see light as light.

Occasionally, say when we step out of a theater into the sun, we see light as light.

But, most of the time, we don't.

This is why many photographs are so-so.

Photographers have to be sensitive to light.

There are four light rules.

If you understand them, you'll know how to use light better.

Here are the four light rules.

1) Size of the Light Source Relative to the Subject

2) Sidelighting

3) Backlighting

4) Distance of the Light Source from the Subject

We'll look at each one.
