Manual, Single, & Continuous Focus
You can set your camera to focus three ways:
1) Manual focus
You have to focus by turning the lens.
2) Single focus
The camera focuses, and will remain at that focus if you keep the shutter release depressed slightly.
3) Continuous focus
The camera focuses continuously as long as you keep the shutter release depressed slightly.
Of course, camera manufacturers may call these focusing methods by different names.
Check your instruction manual.
The "M" Confusion
Most of my beginning students confuse two different Ms on their cameras.
There's the M for manual focus.
This M is located on or near their lens.
The other M is on the exposure mode dial on top of the camera.
This second M stands for manual exposure.
Don't confuse the two Ms.
