The Text On type tools allow you to run text along a path.
The text will follow the path created by a selection.
Below, the oval was selected.
Then, qwerty was entered.
If the area selected was used only to create the path for the text, hide the layer.
Do the following.
1) Make a selection.
2) To modify the selection:
a) Go to Select > Transform Selection.
b) Click, hold, and drag one of the handles.
Corner handles will change the size.
The side handles will change the shape.
To move the selection, click and hold inside the selection, and drag.
If you place the cursor outside the selection, you can click, hold, and rotate the selection.
c) Click the green checkmark.
3) Select the Text on Selection tool.
4) Click inside the selection.
5) Click the green checkmark.
6) If you want to have some space between the selection and the text, use the Offset slide in options bar/Tool Options.
The path, where the text will appear, will be moved away from the selection.
7) Click the green checkmark.
The selection is converted to a path, seen as a solid line.
8) Click on the path where you want the first letter.
9) Enter the text.
10) To move the text along the path, do the following.
a) Press and hold Ctrl.
b) Place the cursor on the vertical line at the end of the text.
A tiny black arrow will appear.
c) Click, hold, and drag the line.
The text will follow.
11) Click the green checkmark in options bar/Tool Options.
12) If needed, you can modify the shape of the path.
a) Go to Image > Transform Shape > Free Transform Shape.
b) Click, hold, and drag one of the handles.
Corner handles will change the size.
The side handles will change the shape.
To move the shape, click and hold inside the shape, and drag.
If you place the cursor outside the shape, you can click, hold, and rotate the shape.
c) Click the green checkmark.
13) If needed, you can use the Type tool to modify the text.
The text will follow the path created by a shape.
The shape disappears when you're finished with the tool.
Do the following.
1) Select The Text on Shape tool.
2) Select a shape in the menu in options bar/Tool Options.
3) Click, hold, and drag out the shape.
4) Click on the path where you want the first letter.
5) Enter the text.
6) To move the text—along the path—or inside or outside some of the shapes—do the following.
a) Press and hold Ctrl.
b) Place the cursor on the vertical line at the end of the text.
A tiny black arrow will appear.
c) Click, hold, and drag the line.
The text will follow.
7) Click the green checkmark in options bar/Tool Options.
8) To modify the shape:
a) Go to Image > Transform Shape > Free Transform Shape.
b) Click, hold, and drag one of the handles.

9) If needed, you can use the Type tool to modify the text.
The shapes in the Text on Shape menu are limited.
You may want to create a shape using one the Shape tools.
Then, select the shape and use the Text on Selection tool, above.
Then, you can delete the shape layer or hide it by clicking the eye icon for the layer.
The text will follow the path created free hand.
Do the following.
1) Select the Text on Custom Path tool.
2) Click, hold, and drag out a path.
3) To modify the path, do the following.
a) Select Refine Path in options bar/Tool Options.
b) Click, hold, and drag the black boxes on the path.
c) Click the green checkmark.
4) Click on the path where you want the first letter.
5) Enter the text.
6) To move the text—along the path—or inside or outside some of the shapes—do the following.
a) Press and hold Ctrl.
b) Place the cursor on the vertical line at the end of the text.
A tiny black arrow will appear.
c) Click, hold, and drag the line.
The text will follow.
7) Click the green checkmark in options bar/Tool Options.
