Tips: Flash Bigots, Shutter Speeds: Long
Here are five tips that'll make selecting easier.
Beginners should start with an easy selection.
What's easy?
A Red Frisbee™ on green grass?
Yes!
A multi-colored snake slithering across multi-colored rocks?
No!
Enlarge the area that you're selecting with the Zoom tool.
If the selection tool uses a brush, vary its size to fit the needs at the moment.
A bigger brush has a bigger effect.
If you only need to nudge the selection, make the brush smaller.
If the selection tool uses a brush, don't try to make the selection in one swoop.
If you do, and you make a mistake, you've got to start over.
Instead, do an easy part of the selection, and then let go of the mouse button.
Proceed with adding to the selection, releasing the mouse periodically.
If you, or the tool, make a mistake, undo it.
When you do so, you won't loose the entire selection.
You often need to use more than one tool to make a selection.
For example, the Selection Brush tool is often used to "mop" away unneeded parts of a selection.
You can alternate between the Lasso tool (operates free hand) and the Polygonal Lasso tool (makes straight lines).
