Your photographs, on your computer, are often called files.

Example

Let's say you open Grand_Canyon.jpg.

The extension at the end of the file name, .jpg, means the file uses the JPEG file format.

You do some editing.

Now, you want to save the file, Grand_Canyon.jpg.
