Content aware fill was added to Photoshop Elements in version 9.0.
1) Go to the Spot Healing Brush tool.
2) In the options bar, select the Content Aware Fill type.
3) Click and hold, and drag the brush.
Dak, a member of Elements Village, created an action for Photoshop Elements.
The action only works in Photoshop Elements 9.0.
You make a selection, and then run the action.
The results are usually better than those obtained using the Spot Healing brush.
1) Close Photoshop Elements.
2) Download Dak's Content Aware Fill Action.
A zip folder called Content Aware Fill will appear where you save downloads.

3) Right click on the Content Aware Fill zip folder, and select Extract All.
The contents of the zip file are extracted to a second folder called Content Aware Fill.
4) If you can't find the folders below on your computer, go to Hidden Files & Folders.
XP: C: > Documents and Settings > All Users > Application Data > Adobe > Photoshop Elements > x.0 > Locale > en_US > Workflow Panels > actions
Vista: C: > ProgramData > Adobe > Photoshop Elements > x.0 > Locale > en_US > Workflow Panels > actions
Windows 7: C: > ProgramData > Adobe > Photoshop Elements > x.0 > Photo Creations > Photo Effects
5) Open the Content Aware Fill folder, press Ctrl + a and Ctrl + c.
The three files are selected and copied.
6) Navigate to the above Photo Effects folder using the appropriate pathway above, and press Ctrl + v.
The three files are pasted into the Photo Effects folder.
3) Double click the Content Aware Fill zip folder.
The contents of the zip file are extracted to a second folder called Content Aware Fill.
4) Navigate to the Photo Effects folder using the pathway below.
Mac: Hard Drive > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Photoshop Elements > 8.0 > Photo Creations > Photo Effects
5) Open the Content Aware Fill folder, press Cmd + a and Cmd + c.
The three files are selected and copied.
6) Navigate to the above Photo Effects folder using the appropriate pathway above, and press Cmd + v.
The three files are pasted into the Photo Effects folder.
7) Open Photoshop Elements.
8) In the Effects panel on the left side of your screen, click on the Photo Effects icon (third from the left).
Look for the Content Aware Fill icon.

If you don't see it, click on Show All at the bottom of the list.
9) Make a selection.
10) Click the Content Aware Fill icon.
11) Follow the directions in the window.

12) If the result is poor, press Ctrl + z to undo.
13) If your selection is gone, go to Select > Reselect.
14) Click the Content Aware Fill icon.
15) Follow the directions in the window.
