Let's say you're photographing a group of people at an office for a website.
You use flash.
Because the light from flashes is about the same color as sunlight, you set the white balance to the Sun icon.
The color of the light from the flash and the white balance are the same.
But, the color of the background is a murky green.
That's because there are florescent lights in the background.
The flash doesn't reach very far, so the florescent lights in the background are not overpowered by the flash.
Florescent lights, except full-spectrum tubes, produce green light.
So, there's a mismatch between the color of the light in the background, and the white balance setting for the flash.
How can you get rid of the green?
