Two Locations

When you look at your monitor, the above photograph appears in two places on your monitor.

1st Location

The first location is the work area.

2nd Location

The second location is the Layers panel on the right side of your screen.

q

The work-area view is sort of like being in a helicopter over the layers.

The Layers-panel view is a side view—like the geologic layers in the walls of the Grand Canyon.

Aerial View Side View

In the aerial view, you’re looking at the top layer, Layer 5.

Layer 5

And, you can see Layer 1 peaking out at the bottom.

Layer 1

You can't see the other layers.

They're hidden under Layer 5.

Play

Open the above file in Photoshop Elements.

Move the layers around in the stack.

Turn the eye icons on and off.

The eye icons are on the left sides of the layers.

When you can't see the eye icon, you can't see the layer.

Experiment with opacity at the top of the Layers panel.

Select the Eraser tool, and erase parts of the layers.

If you want to start over, go to Edit > Revert.
