Wall

7) Select the background in your photograph.

The Quick Selection tool was used here.

On the left side of Miss Gish, the Quick Selection tool had difficulty distinguishing between the shadow, dress, and hair.

The Selection Brush tool solved this problem.

8) Save the Selection as Background.

If you haven't already done so, go to Selection Tools.

How-to-do, the following steps, was discussed in the previous section.

9) Choose a color for the background.

10) Create a blank layer, and rename it as Wall.

v11) Select the Paint Bucket tool, and click inside the selection.

The background will be a solid color.

12) Change the blending mode of the Wall layer from Normal to Color.

When you do so, the solid color becomes a mixture of the color and the wall.

Change it from Selection to Mask.

The area inside the selection remains clear.

The area outside the selection turns red.

To remove the mask, change the mode from Mask to Selection.

Or, do it free hand with the Brush tool.

For example, there are locks of hair on Miss Gish's forehead that were missed by the Hair selection.

They can be colored with the Brush tool.

Select the Hair layer, and retouch.
