With this method, you can choose any color for the copyright watermark, and can add it to a photograph with a click of the Brush tool.
That's convenient.
You can also move it around, and you can change it's size and opacity.
That's versatile.
Be sure to check off as you go along.
1) Go to File > New > Blank File.
Make the canvas the typical size and resolution of your photographs.
Let's say you have a website, and you often use photographs that are 350 px x 240 px at 72 ppi.
Make sure you select Transparent in the Background Contents box.
Select a font, such as Arial, at 18 points, set to Bold and Centered.
If your canvas is larger than 350 px x 240 px at 72 ppi, use a larger point size.
2) Change the point size to 36.
Hold Alt and enter 0169 using the numeric keypad.
If you're using a laptop that doesn't have a numeric keypad, press Fn + Alt + 0169.
Press Option + g.
The copyright symbol will appear, and then press Enter.
3) Change the point size back to 18.
Click the black check mark to accept the type.
4) You can make the text translucent and embossed.
However, the text may not be visible on some of your photographs.
You can always make two brushes, one with normal type, and the other with the effect.
To create the effect, do the following.
a) Make sure the type layer is active (highlighted).
If you're using Photoshop Elements 4.0, do the following.
b) Open the Styles and Effects palette.
c) Go to Effects.
d) Double click Clear and Emboss.
If you're using Photoshop Elements 5.0, do the following.
b) Open the Artwork and Effects palette.
c) Go to Special Effects.
d) Double click Ghosted, located under Layer Styles, subcategory Visibility, in the Artwork and Effects palette.
e) Go to Layer > Simplify Layer.
f) Double click Emboss, located under Filters, subcategory Stylize, in the Artwork and Effects palette.
4) Go to the Rectangular Marquee tool, and draw a selection around the text.
5) Make sure the brush library where you'd like to save the brush is the current library.
Do the following.
Click the black arrow, to the right of the Preset Brush Picker in the options bar, to open the Preset Brush Picker window.
Select the library where you'd like your brush to be placed.
If you downloaded the hard and soft brushes along with the empty brush library folder, select _Empty.
6) Go to Edit > Define Brush from Selection.
Go to Save a Modified Brush.
The copyright brush isn't a modified brush, but you can save it the same way.
1) Open a photograph.
2) Select the Brush tool.
Select the Preset Brush Picker window, in the options bar, and select the brush library where you saved the brush.
The brush will be at the end of the list of brushes in the library.
Click your brush.
3) Create a new layer for the watermark by clicking the Create a new layer icon at the top of the Layers palette.
4) Select a color for the watermark.
The foreground color will be the color of the text.
In the photograph below, white was used by pressing x to switch the foreground color from black to white.
You can select any color.
If you haven't already done so, go to Color Picking.
5) Click the screen about where you want the watermark.
You can move the watermark with the Move tool.
6) Change the opacity of the layer to lighten the watermark, if needed.
If you change the opacity, make sure you change the opacity of the layer, not the opacity of the brush in the options bar.
The opacity was changed to 50% in the photograph below.
7) You can use the Transform command, Ctrl + t, to change the size of the watermark.
With Photoshop 5.0, select Constrain Proportions in the options bar, if you wish to maintain the aspect ratio.
With Photoshop 4.0, hold down Shift to constrain proportions.
Go to the Free Transform Command tutorial.
The layer can be dragged onto other photographs.
Go to Batch Processing - Dragging Layers Method.
If you save the photograph as a JPEG, without changing the name, the watermark will become a permanent part of the photograph.
Therefore, you may want to save the photograph using a different name.
If you haven't already done so, go to Saving Files.
If you save the photograph as a PSD file, the layer with the watermark can be modified, and it can be hidden by clicking the Eye icon of the layer, at any time.
