Photoshop Elements: Split Toning, Tips: Passage of Time & Organize Your Photographs (Revised)
If you're working with skin tones a lot, do become familiar with their "numbers."
There are forty-two skin tone samples below.
By using the bar graphs and figures, the skin tones can be compared more easily.
In this section, each skin tone is analyzed individually.
To compare the skin tones side-by-side, go to the Skin Tone Samples Chart.
If you haven't already done so, go to Skin Tone Correction Guidelines.
Scroll down, or click here.
Here are explanations of the bar graphs and figures.
The RGB (red-green-blue) values are given for each skin tone, visually and numerically.
You can see how much of each ingredient is used for the skin tone.
As you read in Skin Tone Correction Guidelines:
• Red is greater than green.
• Green is greater than blue.

To make comparison of the RGB values easier, they've been reduced to what percent they are of the red value.

Photoshop Elements only supports RGB values, not CMY (cyan-magenta-yellow) values.
However, you should familiarize yourself with skin tone correction using CMY values.
Each CMY color represents the opposite value of its opposite RGB color (cyan/red, magenta, green, yellow, blue).
The actual CMY values are not given because conversion from RGB to CMY depends on the color profile of the device.
When using CMY values and skin tone correction, yellow is always greater than magenta, and magenta is always greater than cyan.

In the middle, there are two tables.
|
R Compared to G G Compared to B
|
The top table compares the quantity of:
• Red to green.
• Green to blue.
The math is (Red - Green)/Green and (Red - Blue)/Blue.
As described in Skin Tone Correction Guidelines, the green value often varies according to the group in which the subject may be found.
|
R Compared to G & B
|
The bottom table changes the percent of red figures described above.
Here, the percents reflect how much more red there is, than green and blue.
The range of values for Caucasian skin tones are given.
The math is 1 - (Green/Red) and 1 - (Blue/Red).
The skin tones are arranged from the highest red value (255) to the lowest red value (0).
To compare the skin tones side-by-side, go to the Skin Tone Chart.
