The original photograph has a resolution of 300 ppi.
Let's change the resolution from 300 to 72 ppi, but with the Resample Image box unchecked.
Notice how the dimensions increased dramatically.
The photograph went from being a mere 6.67 x 10 inches to being an enormous 28 x 42 inches.
The size increased because there are now only 72 pixels per inch, not 300 per inch.
