Menus & Commands
There are three menus with commands.
You may have already used Menu #1 to change the Brush Picker
window display.
Here are descriptions of the other commands in Menu #1.

The commands below change how the brushes are displayed in the
Brush Picker window.
Small Thumbnail
Large Thumbnail

Preset Manager
The Preset Manager has menus #2 and #3.
It will be described in the
next section.
Use Reset Brushes to restore the brush libraries to their default
settings.
Unsaved changes are discarded.
Load Brushes
Use Load to change from one brush library to another.

Opening Menu #1
As described in the first section, do the following to open Menu
#1.
1) You're using the Brush tool.
2) Locate the Brush Picker in the options bar.
3) Click the black arrow, to the right of the Brush Picker in
the options bar, to open the Brush Picker window.
Here's the Brush Picker window.
4) To go to Menu #1, click the blue arrow in the Brush Picker
window.

If you make a change to a brush library, it's best to save the
change immediately.
Changes include modifying the settings of a brush, renaming a
brush, and deleting a brush.
Do the following to save a change.
1) Open Menu #1.
2) Click Save Brushes (not Save Brush) to open the Save window.
3) In the Save window, select the brush library that you're using.
The Save window selects the Untitled Brushes library by default.
Make sure you select the correct brush library.
4) Click OK.
5) A window will open asking you if you want to replace the existing
file (brush library).
6) Click OK.
If you modify a brush, Photoshop Elements preserves the modifications
only temporarily.
If you do the following, the modifications are discarded.
• Click the brush in the Brush Picker window.
• Switch to another brush or brush library.
• Use the Reset Brushes command (see
below).
You can save the modifications, except Mode and Opacity, by doing
the following.
Note
You'll use the Save Brush (not Save Brushes) command below.
However, you're not saving the brush.
You're renaming it.
After renaming it, you'll use the Save Brushes (not Save Brush)
command to actually save the brush.
Rename the Brush
1) Select a brush.
2) Modify the brush.
3) Open Menu #1.
Don't click on the brush in the Brush Picker window.
If you do so, the modifications will be discarded.
Just open Menu #1.
4) Click Save Brush (not Save Brushes).
5) Enter a new name for the brush.
6) Click OK.
As mentioned, you now have to use the Save Brushes command to
actually save the new brush.
Save the New Brush
1) Open Menu #1.
2) Click Save Brushes (not Save Brush) to open the Save window.
3) In the Save window, select the brush library that you're using.
The Save window selects the Untitled Brushes library by default.
Make sure you select the correct brush library.
4) Click OK.
5) A window will open asking you if you want to replace the existing
file (brush library).
6) Click OK.
To rename a brush, do the following.
1) Select the brush.
2) Open Menu #1.
3) Click Rename Brush to open the Brush Name window.
4) Enter the new name for the brush.
5) Click OK.
6) Open Menu #1.
7) Click Save Brushes (not Save Brush) to open the Save window.
8) In the Save window, select the brush library that you're using.
The Save window selects the Untitled Brushes library by default.
Make sure you select the correct brush library.
9) Click OK.
10) A window will open asking you if you want to replace the
existing file (brush library).
11) Click OK.
To delete a brush, do the following.
1) Select the brush.
2) Open Menu #1.
3) Click Delete Brush.
4) Open Menu #1.
5) Click Save Brushes (not Save Brush) to open the Save window.
6) In the Save window, select the brush library that you're using.
The Save window selects the Untitled Brushes library by default.
Make sure you select the correct brush library.
7) Click OK.
8) A window will open asking you if you want to replace the existing
file (brush library).
9) Click OK.
Disobedient Save Window
If you modify a brush, the above window may appear.
When you click OK in the above window, the Save window should
open.
Sometimes, the Save window doesn't open.
If it doesn't, you'll probably click OK in the above window,
and will think your changes have been saved.
They haven't.
If you click OK, and the Save window doesn't open as it should,
do the following.
1) Open Menu #1.
2) Click Save Brushes (not Save Brush) to open the Save window.
3) In the Save window, select the brush library that you're using.
The Save window selects the Untitled Brushes library by default.
Make sure you select the correct brush library.
4) Click OK.
5) A window will open asking you if you want to replace the existing
file (brush library).
6) Click OK.
Load (Install) a New Brush Library
1) Open Menu #1.
2) Click Load Brushes.
3) Select the new library in the Load window.
4) Click Load.
