Lightroom versions are explained here.

Preparation

Our first class will be like a shakedown cruise on a sailboat.

Before the class:

1) Create six folders.

2) Put photographs in four of the folders.

These tasks will take you no more than twenty minutes.

If every student completes the tasks before the  class—our cruise will go smoothly.

If a single student doesn't do the tasks at home—and has to do them during class—our cruise will be interrupted often.

q

Click one of the links below.

• You'll be using a school computer—and use Windows at home.

• You'll be using a school computer—and use Mac at home.

• You'll be bringing a Windows laptop to class.

• You'll be bringing a Mac laptop to class.

School Computer - Use Windows at Home

Make Folders

Create the following folders on a flash drive or on an external hard drive (Windows only).

1) Plug in your flash drive or your external hard drive (Windows only).

2) Press the Windows key + e.

The Windows key looks like a wavy flag.

It's to the left of the space bar.

3) On the left side of the window, under Computer or under This PC, click your flash drive or external hard drive to open it.

4) Press Shift + Ctrl + n to make each new folder.

5) Copy and paste the folder names below—to make six folders.

Lightroom photos to be imported - At home

When you're done—you'll have six folders on your flash drive/external hard drive.

Copy & Paste Photographs

Copy and paste ten different photographs into each of the folders below.

The photographs can be mixed subjects or themes.

Or, you can put photographs with a certain subject or theme in each folder.

q

1) Go to Pictures or My Pictures and open a folder.

2) To select ten photographs, press and hold the Ctrl key, and click on each of the ten photographs.

3) Release the Ctrl key and press Ctrl + c.

4) Go to one of the above folders and press Ctrl + v.

5) Repeat the above steps.

When you're done—you'll have:

• Forty different photographs in the four folders.

• Ten in each folder.

School Computer - Use Mac at Home

Make Folders

Create the following folders on a flash drive.

1) Plug in your flash drive.

2) Go to the Dock and click Finder, the blue double-face icon on the left end.

3) On the left side of the window, under Devices, click your flash drive to open it.

4) Click the File menu at the top of the screen and select New Folder.

5) Copy and paste the folder names below—to make six folders.

When you're done—you'll have six folders on your flash drive.
