If You Have Lightroom 5

If you're bringing a laptop to school with Lightroom 5, you can continue to use Lightroom 5.

If you'll be using a school computer, you'll need Lightroom 6 or Lightroom CC (described below).

You can't use Lightroom 6 at school—and then go home and use the catalog* on Lightroom 5.

* The catalog contains all of your organizing and editing information.

HDR & Panorama with Lightroom 5

If you're using Lightroom 5, try the following programs for HDR and panoramas.

Windows Users

Lightroom 6 and Lightroom CC require a 64-bit operating system.

How to Check

Do the following.

1) Look for the Windows key to the left of the space bar.

2) Look for the Pause key towards the top of your keyboard.

3) Press and hold the Windows key and press the Pause key.

4) Release both keys.

5) In the window that opens, look for System type.

If the operating system is 64 bit, you can use Lightroom 6 or Lightroom CC on your computer.

The computer below is 32 bit.

Lightroom 6 and Lightroom CC won't run on it.

Note that the processor is x64-based.

The computer may be able to be upgraded to 64 bit.

Lightroom 6 & Lightroom CC

Lightroom 6

There's a standalone version called Lightroom 6.

It costs about $145.

You can buy it via a download or on DVDs.

Lightroom CC

Lightroom CC is subscribed to for about $10 per month, with a yearly contract.

CC stands for Creative Cloud.

You also get Photoshop CC.
