My Pictures or Pictures

Open the Flash Drive

1) Insert the flash drive into a USB port on your computer.

2) Press the Windows key (flag icon) + e.

3) Look for the flash drive on the bottom left corner of the window.

The flash drive will have a letter and a name.

Letter

You'll see your hard drive (C:).

There may be a CD/DVD drive (probably D:).

The flash drive may be E:, F:, or another letter.

Name

The name of the drive may be:

• Removable Disk.

• The name of the manufacturer of the flash drive.

• Or another name.

4) Double click the flash drive to open its window.

5) If the flash-drive window fills the screen, click the middle icon in the upper-right corner of the window.

If you're not familiar with using windows, go to Manipulate Windows.

Make a Folder On the Flash Drive

If you wish, create a folder for the photographs on the flash drive.

Do the following.

a) Right click on a white area inside the flash-drive window.

b) Select New > Folder.

New folder is highlighted in blue.

If the words New folder are not highlighted in blue, click on New folder to highlight the words.

c) Enter a name, such as Assignment 1.

d) Click on a white area in the window.

e) Double click the Assignment 1 folder to open it up.

Open the My Pictures/Pictures Folder

6) Press the Windows key (flag icon) + e.

7) On the left side of the window, click My Pictures or Pictures.

8) Find the folder containing the photographs you want to copy to the flash drive.

You may have to click through several folders.

A typical folder hierarchy is as follows.

Brand name of your camera

Month folders

Date folders

Let's say your photographs are located in a folder called 10/12/2011.

9) Double click the 10/12/2011 folder.

Select the Thumbnails

10) Select the photographs that you want to show in class in the 10/12/2011 folder window.

If you're not familiar with selecting thumbnails, go to How to Select Thumbnails.

Copy to the Flash Drive

11) You can copy and paste—or you can drag.

Copy & Paste

a) Place the cursor over one of the selected photographs in the 10/12/2011 folder window.

b) Right click and select Copy.

The selected files are copied.

c) Click on a white area in the flash-drive window.

d) Right click and select Paste.

Your photographs are pasted into the flash drive.

Drag

You're going to drag the selected photographs from one window to the other window.

a) Place the cursor over one of the selected photographs.

b) Click and hold down the left mouse button.

c) Drag (move the mouse) the selected photograph to a white area in the flash-drive window.

Your photographs are copied onto the flash drive.

Eject the Flash Drive

Do the following.

a) Press the Windows key (flag icon) + e.

b) Look for the flash drive on the bottom left corner of the window.

c) Right click on it and select Eject.

A Safe to Remove Hardware window will pop up in the lower right corner of your screen.

d) Unplug the flash drive.
